High School Drags Coming Up
The car I will be racing, if all goes well and I get my license or my dad lets me race with a permit.
Don't know why we pulled a one wheeler, it has a posi in it and usually spins both.

Man, that bring back some memories! I had a 71' for 3 years that got me through the Navy.
What kind of power you have in it? (Edit...I see it's a 302)! I'd bet some money on it!

Re: High School Drags Coming Up
Sadly, I don't know the exact specs. We bought it with the motor already built and I hate not knowing what the specs for an engine are. All I know is that it was a 600cfm 4160series holley, ford motorsports valve covers, summit air cleaner, comp cams cam, and flexible fan when we bought it. We replaced the air cleaner with an edelbrock one. But my dad buys stuff without even making sure its the right part or what it even is. He bought a cam for a amc 360 and a carb and he didn't even know the model number for the carb. He didn't know the power band for the cam or ANY of the specs. But we swapped the carb off of the jeeps 360 with the one on the Maverick. So the Mav now has a 650cfm edelbrock, which we then found out that the holley 600cfm's are crap and the carb on it was in horrible shape at that. The 650 made a world of difference. I know you especially like this because its a 302. I know how dear you hold them. 4.10 gears, posi, thrush turbo oval mufflers, and hedman headers with 3" collectors.

Re: High School Drags Coming Up
Yeah, my brother ran it last year 14.35@95mph. Not that much of a drag car, but you can see its got some get up. Yesterday my dad wanted me to get a feel of launching so we went down in scenic road with a speed limit of 40 mph. He had me pull over a couple of times and launch it, spun the wheels a little and I was shifting at around 5g's but I was more worried about the fact that I was at a highway speed on a road without my permit on me. This was the ONE time I forgot it and I was going like 65 mph. I cant wait, and after this race I'm hoping to get the bump at the High School Drags. I should run low 12's with it.

Re: High School Drags Coming Up
Now a Bump would make one heck of a drag-truck IMO , Just a bit on the Heavy side , but thanks to that it shouldn't have too much of an issue planting the rear wheels to the ground .bb429power wrote:Yeah, my brother ran it last year 14.35@95mph. Re: High School Drags Coming Up
Its a longbed so it should have enough weight on the rear tires to lock up real good. I was thinking of making weight boxes for those two flat pannels at the back of the bed. That is, if I needed them.

Re: High School Drags Coming Up
Well yesterday I shined it up. Earlier in the week we were trying to fix the tachometer because it was only on by one screw and the others weren't there or stripped. Then my dad put his weight on the mirror while working on the tach and the mirror came off. We had another one just like it and used that instead and put it on the windshield.
The guy we got it from had a Woodward Cruise plate on the dash and left behind some non-removable (unless you wanted to ruin the paint) epoxy. so we did remove it with a razor and put a summit racing sticker over it. I hope it will give us some more power and lower the E.T's a little bit.

Re: High School Drags Coming Up
good luck with it. I like mavericks more than I do bumps. I am building a 351w for mine and shooting for mid to high 7's in the 1/8. High 11's or low 12's in the 1/4.

I traded my '74 for my bump. in hind sight kinda wish I'd kept it since finding how much better the guy that got it made out than I did. Loved that car, and I will own a small bumper one day.

I love the ones from 70-72 because they don't have the bulky bumpers. I will post the videos of me and my brother racing just after the drags. Its getting closer. I can't wait. I will end up racing with a permit. At least I still get to race.

Me and my brother both went racing at Milan. Here's some pictures, I will get videos as soon as photobucket uploads them.

I've been waiting for this race for 2 years and it was raining on the way out, but I guess that people from all directions hit Plank road (the road leading to the dragway) and it was clear skies. It got hot, I did dang good for my first time racing.
http://s976.photobucket.com/albums/ae24 ... I_0325.flv
Crappy FMX and factory converter, this car can get into the 12's when we swap in the c6. Rev limiter at 7,000.
http://s976.photobucket.com/albums/ae24 ... I_0326.flv
It wasn't shifting right and wouldn't switch gears. Listen for the rev limiter at 6,000.
http://s976.photobucket.com/albums/ae24 ... 0052-1.flv
I walked up on this guy the whole way down, he had a handicap and beat me by .0221. We were neck and neck.
http://s976.photobucket.com/albums/ae24 ... 0053-1.flv
http://s976.photobucket.com/albums/ae24 ... 240051.flv
I can't figure out how to fix the color issue that the camera has. We used two different ones and the one seems to be black and white most of the time, I hate how it does that.
