I'm sure Sears had a reputible company make them (maybe Century or Hobart) and stuck their name on them.
It seems to have a good amp range.
$90 isn't bad $60-75 would be better.

Too bad you aren't closer, I have a spare Lincoln 225 that I'd make you a deal on.

Check your local CL, you can probably find a 225 lincoln for that. My newest 225 cost me $75 out of the local classifieds in the paper.

Re: need opinions on an older welder
Well that's the thing; I've got a lead on a lincoln 225 for $100. The only thing is it's well used, where this one is hardly even broken in. Any opinions on which has the potential to be a better welder? I've done plenty of welding down at the apprentice school, but when it comes to brands and what's good and what's junk i'm a greenhorn...

Personally I wouldn't mess with an arc welder anymore. Go to Lowes and get a little Lincoln Mig and use the flux core for the cage or go for the gas kit (about $500 total) and you'll have a welder that will last your lifetime and you will use the heck out of it once you have it.

AC stick welders don't wear out. I think $90 is fair. It's pretty easy to build a rollcage with stick. I still use stick a few times, sometimes more, monthly even with several MIG welders, two watercooled TIG's and the like. If I had to choose one to keep it'd be the old 300 miller heliarc.
