leaking cab

Post by 1968_ONEHUN »

Is their a likley spot where water would be coming into the cab on the pass. side.It appears to be above the vent on the kick panel,I have had the whole front end of,and repaired the fire wall sill new inners etc.I know I have a fair amount of willow leaves in the cowl also(was not able to get them all out).Any probable spot?

My 72 always leaked there too. It ran down the kick panel from under the dash somewhere.

As far as I know, the two most likely places to leak are the vent grille area, if it's all plugged up with debris, and don't overlook the windshield gasket.
Mine used to do this pretty bad, and I found 85% of it was coming in at the top of the windshield at the gasket. And the gasket looks ok, so the looks of it ain't a good test... It then runs down the windshield frame on the sides, and then off down into the cab area, usually at the vents, but also usually around where your feet go. IE: brake pedal area, and ditto for the other side.
The way I cured it was to run a small bead of silicone along the top of the windshield gasket, so the water can't seep down into the seam. After I did this, my water leakage was cut by 85% or more. I still have a tiny bit sometimes if it really pours for hours, but I don't know what I can do about that. May be the body seals under the grille vent leaking a bit. MK

Mine does the same thing. Everytime it rains and I take a left turn it just poors down the kick panel. Its my windshield gasket.

Yeah, mine had that problem too. It' usually the windshield seal or junk plugging the drain in the cowl so water stands and eventually works its way into the cab.

Yeah, that is definetly the concern.
CACWBY, I had a new seal too. I wondered after they put it in if they put a thick seal on a thin windshield, but it was more than a year after that I noticed it.

Mine does that too in the 72 did all the body work new gasket and windshield and it leaks alittle add all the goop is a poor way to repair now i had the 68 f-100 done at a glass shop and they told me they all like to leak when replacing with new glass or seals so they put this black sealant on both grooves, on the glass side and the body side of gasket and guess what .... NO LEAKS, so now Im going to take the 72 in to them Im tired of the leaking ,put too much money in truck to continued to be annoyed by a stupid aftermarket windshield rubber that some glass guy states that you dont need to do that, hes come back twice ,put more poop on the seal area to have it still leak So guys a word of advice when replacing glass and or a seal have them use the good rubber sealant on the glass groove and the body groove insist on it!

No thanks that sand and relentless sun eats rubber and paint not to mention sand into the cylinders at some point or another.
