Sealing stock holes in cab floor?

Post by sargentrs »

Getting ready to put sound deadener/insulation on my cab floor. There's several original holes, i.e. clutch rod, jack rod/lug wrench, etc, holes in the floor that I won't be reinstalling the original stuff in. Some are oval, some are round, so on and so forth. I'll be laying down some Peel n Stick and then topping it off with EZ Cool insulation. I figure I can always put bolts into the extra threaded holes but should I be concerned with sealing off places like the hole where the clutch rod goes through, etc? If so, do ya'll have any recommendations? Silicone, rubber, gasket material, screw down, glue down, and so on? Any advice/input/experience will be greatly appreciated. TIA!

I've heard of taking a piece of metal plate and put silicon around the edge and place it over the hole. If you had to you could remove that without any permanent damage. If you didn't want to ever easily open the hole back up a metal plate welded on the outside, spray with rust preventative paint or undercoat. Use a type of filler on the inside , sand, then paint over it and you'll never be able to really tell there was a hole from the inside. The rust hole in my truck is fixed that way and Im happy with it. You could also screw a plate in a course and put silicon around the edge. I'd imagine if you didn't seal the area up it would rust and water could get in the cab.

That's what I did.

And that's why I did it. It's not beautiful, but since it's under new carpeting, I didn't want water coming in.
