rubber accordion air duct inlet for heater

Post by doughboy68 »

I bought a new one, old one was really bad and fell apart. Now great question for all... how the heck do I get both sides back on?

I removed the vent against the outer wall... put the acordion piece on it....nope.... put it on the other side with the heater core in it...nope, tried to install every way I could...nada. I could get close but never got it on 100% - so any thoughts or help would be appreciated!! :help:

I agree, these things are a pain in the AstroTurf to get back on!! :x :x
When I put the new firewall cover on Frodo, I had to pull everything off the firewall, and I purchased some new ducting as well. If I recall correctly, I put it on the heater box first, getting it all the way on. Then i mounted the box on the firewall. I then got the ducting on the backside of the vent, then used a butter knife with about 1/2" of the tip bent at a 90 degree angle to work it around the top, bottom and front side of the vent.
As I said, that's how I recall doing it. It may be easier to mount it to the vent first, and then use the bent butter knife on the heater box. These things are frustrating, I know. Just keep at it, you'll get it! My thoughts and prayers are with you!

A little dish soap for lube might help.

On my non A/C heater I was able to install the whole assembley with the bellows and kickpanel vent attached. I did have to remove the blower motor because my new heater core had longer nipples than the previous one did. I think I got the assembly in place behind the dash, then slid the kickpanel vent in place then the heater core nipples throught the firewall.
