bench seat size

Post by uptboi31 »

I bought a 1967 F100 and the bench seat needs to be recovered. I want to buy a reupholstery kit from LMC but I'm unsure what year the bench seat is. I know it's a ford bench seat, but I don't think it's original to the truck. Are all bench seats from 67-79 the same size? I know the mounting brackets are different but what about the seat itself? The kit for a 67-72 is $149.00 and the kit a 73-79 is $179.00. This leads me to believe the 73-79 seat is bigger and I don't want to order the wrong size and be stuck sending it back. The part numbers are 49-5704 for the 73-79 and 49-5703 for the 67-72 models in case someone wants to look at it and tell me what they think. Any help would be great.

What I'm saying is that someone before I owned the truck might have put a bench seat from, say for instance, a '75 in the '67 truck and if I order the '67 kit, it might not fit if the seats are bigger for a '75. So, are the seats themselves the same size or not?

I can't guarantee this, memory's a little fuzzy, but I believe I put a bench seat back from a dent on my bump seat bottom because I had big gaping hole where the foam was gone and just bolted it on. Got it from a friend and he only had dents so I'm pretty sure of it.

Someone I spoke to at NPD told me the top seat is bigger on a dent due to the angle of the way the seat mounts. I'm still waiting to on a for sure answer before I order the kit. How would I know what year the seat is? is there a number stamped onto the frame maybe?

If the seat on a dent is different then unique parts would have a different part number stamped on them. Probably starting with a D3. Look for stamped numbers on any metal part of the seat. The common method for swapping in a dent seat is to remove the mounting brackets and drilling out the threads in the mounting holes on the seat for through bolts. Look at those and see if they look drilled out.

There is usually a metal tag attached to the frame that states the seat frames part number. often if it has been reupholstered the idiot usually takes it off because he is an idiot.

Well, it was a newer seat. I found that out by ordering the 67-72 kit and it would not work on this seat so I ordered a 73-79 kit and it did work, I just have to go through the trouble of sending it back now. Also, the kits are not very easy to work with and you really have to pull and pull the material to get it to attach. The instructions suck and you pretty much have to figure it out on your own since the replacement material is missing the plastic sewn in attachment channel that would clip onto the frame. LMC is no help, they have no one at their order line that knows anything about anything they sell. They are strictly a order line with no tech help on hand.

Yes, I found the metal tag on the spring frame on the bottom of mine - but original seat too (that needs redone too).
I'm going to try L and M's kit also.
