seat belts

Post by BlueOvalDave »

Hi everybody! Can someone shed some light on this? I just got my 3 point seatbelts from Wesco. Install is going good EXCEPT, the upper mounting point for the shoulder strap is already threaded for 3/8 X 16 course thread. It has never been used prior to us buying the truck so I know it hasnt been altered. The upper mounting point is very flimsy for lack of a better word. The threaded insert is located in a piece of thin stamped steel and with the bolt inserted I can literally wiggle it. The threads are tight, it's the surrounding metal that can be flexed. Are all the upper mounting points like this? It doesnt inspire much confidence. I'm half tempted to cut the cab open and weld in a thicker piece of bar stock, but dont really want to go thru that.

Any insight?

:hmm: no insight really....it's how they were designed or at least that's the way it's been on two(different yrs)cabs that I've dismantled. No backing plate just the inner cab sheet metal. Back in the day....that was an option and I've never seen an original shoulder belt in place :? Hell now days when I drive the 67....I refuse to even wear the lap belt....I'll take my chances with real steel vs all these plastic cars

If the man can see through the door and see he's not wearing a seat belt then he must have a cape not a badge.

I've been pulled for not wearing a lap belt. Didn't get a ticket because the cop couldn't tell me how he could see through my door. He threatened me with a ticket but had no grounds for writing one. Saved that $100+ :D

I need to put 3 Point Retractable seat belts in my 71 F100.
What is the best place to get them? Wesco?
I have a black truck with red interior. I'd like to find a set that's red.

I'm assuming you are doing this install on a bumpside.
Which (specific) 3 Point Belts did you buy for it?
I went to the Wesco site, and went through the prompts.
Does ours need that 8" extender deal, or not?
I looked at the pre drilled holes in the cab (w/rubber piece in it) and thet are about at eye level. I wouldn't think it would need that extra piece to lower it more.
What about yours?

Thanks
Bob

Hey everyone wanting 3 point seat belts in your bumps. I use these and they work great.

Message seller for other colors.

You will also need two sets of these
http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?nav= ... 20&alt=web

The only "modification" i had to do on the seatbelts to fit my 68 is that I had to swop a different size bolt to fit the top mount. Was easy peazy

P.S they come with 2 female options one set for bench and one set for buckets. The set for buckets have a plastic sleeve to keep it with in reach like in new vehicles.

Please post, and let us know how the install goes, and what you think about the quality.

I have had these seat belts on my "watch list" for quite awhile. They are the least expensive ones I've found.

I had contacted the seller (Welder Joe) some time ago, and he said he didn't have them in red. The Wesco Belts come in my color, but are more expensive. Since this is a work truck, and not a fancy schmancy restoration project, I may just go ahead and get the black ones.

Good tip on the bracket - I'll get that as well, if I order these.
