68 bump dash pad question.

Post by Copper67440 »

My dash pad is cracked pretty good. New one are more than I want to spend. What's under it? How would it look without it? 68 F100. Rangoon Red.

a lot dont have a dash pad any more it really doesn't look bad as long as the paint looks ok. there is 8 holes i think for atachment and the defroster vents put jut put the vents back on and some rather large holes for the speaker. in the image the mounting holes are patched with bondo.

I removed it. Doesn't look too bad for now. Better than the ugly cracked pos that was there. Plan is to fill the holes and repaint it. Going to make my own defroster vents.

Update: I just cut the defroster dash vents out of my old dash pad. They'll get painted to match later. They are darker to match the dash pad.

Just thought I'd add in....I found a one owner, all original '69 F600 for sale about 7 miles from my house. It had no dash pad and no mounting holes. So I guess some came from the factory with no pad.

That was on the bigger work trucks. All the "pickups" had the dash pads from the factory as far as I know.
My 68 is the lowest trim level, and it has a blue pad. Still in fairly decent shape. I keep a blue naugahyde cover over
it to keep the sun off. Have one for the 74 too.. Cut them out to fit the dashes..

The '69 F250 I bought last month has one big crack only down the middle unfortunately - I just ordered LM's dash overlay.
I had one back in the 80's on an old Mercedes and I could not believe how perfect fitting and factory it looked - if installed correctly you can not tell it is not original - very little trimming to do and all cutouts matched great. I remember though about slicing my thumb clean off and bleed like a stuck pig on the 80's one when the ole Exact-O knife slipped - ha. I'll try not to replicate that feat again.

thin41,

How did the overlay from LMC fit? I have a similar crack I'd like to make disappear.

I received my dash overlay today from LMC. Used a large tube of GE silicone from a caulking gun. Fit perfect and looks great.
