Cardboard replacement glove box

Post by uptboi31 »

Ok, I know I'm always taking stuff apart and not know how it goes back together, so I started taking pics before I did it. But, I did it again because something as simple as the glove box would be easy right? Wrong for me. I bought a replacement since my old one was falling apart and the new one has built in holes for the glove box door bolts and also has built in nuts for the screws to go into but they don't line up right. Does the cardboard box sit on the inside edge of the metal lip or just sits on the edge. If I put it behind the edge and try to get the screws into it, I can't hold it and the screws just push the cardboard away. Also, if I use the door bolt holes, then the screw holes don't line up. Before i take a razor kife and cut it to fit, can someone take a pic for me or point me to a place I can see a pic to see how it is supposed to go back? Thanks.

It seems like they never line up because every one I have ever put in did not line up. On the next one I am building it out of an old Caltrans sign, So when it don't fit I have someone to take it out on.

The cardboard goes on the inside and the holes in the bottom just lay on top of the bolts for the hinge. I believe there may be differences in the years and I had the same trouble with my 67. The metal tabs on the new box are worthless, because they are made for the screw to bite into, but the screws are supposed to only bite into the metal dash. You can drill out those metal tabs, and/or move them to where they line up, or remove them alltogether. Unfortunately it's not a bolt in and takes a little modification, and still the face doesn't fit perfectly to the opening no matter how it is secured.

I got mine from LMC, which is why it may have not fit right or been the wrong year. Dennis Carpenter or one of the more reliable places might have sent a better made one or a correct year one if I had gone through them.

Ok, I figured I'd have to cut it up to make it work correctly. Thanks
