Sub mounting help.
Ok so I got this Thump brand dual 12" speaker box about a week ago. At first I thought it would fit behind the seat, but that didn't work out because of the gas tank. So then I thought maybe under the seat, so I pulled the seat out and and the box was still to big, it was originally 8" in the bottom of the box, and then slanted at an angle to 6". So my goal was to cut the box 6" flush. So I did, and it is still to big, after re-carpeting the box and all the hassle it angers me because I just cant come up with any ideas.
Any help is appreciated, the box can't be cut any smaller or the speakers wont fit inside it at all, and it's still to large for behind the seat also..
Thanks again

Re: Sub mounting help.
I have pondered speaker placement a lot, and unless you're willing to remove the cab fuel tank, and install a mustang tank in the back, there really isn't space for 12" subs in the cab of these trucks. You might consider what Calfdemon has done with the speakers in the front of his truck. Maybe you can make a custom enclosure to mount over the hump under the dash?

I'm personally planning on an 8" powered sub under the seat, and a couple of 6x9s in super skinny enclosures perched on the top of the tank, but I have a feeling my "boom" requirements aren't as significant as yours.

Re: Sub mounting help.
I built a down firing 12" single sub box into my center console, but I have buckets and a totally custom console. Nice try to get that box under there. I'm sorry I don't have an answer for your dilemma. There really is little you can do to get those in. You might need to step down to shallower 10's, or find a shallow mount 12.
Page 5 of my build thread shows my console, but it's a serious project just to put a sub in.

I made this for the 68. Didn't block A/C from cooling cab, or heater from heating cab.

I like your thinking Jimmy. I have one of these http://www.crutchfield.com/p_777B8PTD/S ... -8PTD.html in the back of my mini and if I upgrade the stereo in the truck, I'm putting one under the seat there too.jimmy828 wrote:might be a little pricy but at the same time it will save a lot of headache trying to fab something. http://www.kicker.com/hideaway

Re: Sub mounting help.
I like good, clean, clear music that I can turn up when I want, but keep in mind, we're dealing with the inside of a cab. How many 12" bass speakers are needed?
I see people put speakers in these cabs in places I wouldn't. For instants, above driver and passenger seat, you might as well just put an RC jack and wear headphones. (Most states not legal) Or big boxes on the trans hump. Nothing says "Break into me and steal my sound system" more than showing off speakers.
When mini trucks were all the rage I had one, 82 chevy s10 long bed. I had a Rockford Fosgate system in it you wouldn't believe. At that time I got sponsored through Rockford Fosgate for my system. With the help of the company "Wired Up"
The in the cab decibel reading was 143 when we tested it. Of course I could never turn it up that loud. Keep in mind that 195 decibels will rupture your ear drums.
Behind the seats were 2-12" the B-pillar had custom 4x10 in the original location Kick panel areas had a 10" on each side plus custom tweeter's under dash.
The back window was removed because I had a custom no window shell on it. I had 5 amps installed to power all this. I had to run air conditioning ducts to the back where the amps were, Just to keep them cooled. The bed area had 4-12" and 2-10" and 6 3x3 tweaters.
Over Kill? You betcha But that was the thing.
If I'm not mistaken the loudest recorded sound system for a vehicle was recorded at 181 decibels.
Now this is what I'm going to be installing in my 64 f100
