71 Steering wheel NOS vs reproduction

Post by lexun »

Hi all,

I just purchased a steering wheel that I was told was NOS ford. I am not sure if it is a reproduction or the real deal as I cannot find the original part number on it and did not come in the original box. Also it has alignment holes around the underside of the grip. Can you please help me to make that distinction?

Stock steering wheels have 4 holes on the finger grip side. I'm not sure that there is a part # anywhere on the wheel. What are your concerns?

Hi Thank you for the reply. This one has 8 holes on the finger grip side. It sure does not seem like the old bake lite. I paid 250 for it and even though that is the going price it sure seems like a second quality reproduction.

My stock wheel has 4 holes on the back side. Hopefully whatever that one is made of, it won't crack over time like the stockers do :D

Yep your right. That bakelite just did not hold up over the years. I guess I feel if I am going to drop the coin on a reproduction I would like it to be not a second. Thanks for the information and advice. :)
