WHAT IS THIS?
Unfortunately i couldn't get picture to upload. Truck is a 72' F250 Camper Special, right next to the small round BRAKE light on the bottom left corner of the dash is a small black "thing." It looks like it was a knob of sort but it since been broken. The cable/wire behind this "thing" connects to something that looks like a fuse and was disconnected. Ill try to get a pic up soon. Any ideas??? ive tried to describe it as best as i could without a pic.

Re: WHAT IS THIS?
it lights up if there is a proublem with the breaking system. Should be a light bulb in there, not a fuse.

jib, he said next to the brake light...
it may have been a switch for fog lights? can you see where it might have hooked up once? might be another end of the wire on up under the dash somewhere??

Finaly got around to taking pictures, but i dont know how to upload using mobile. But turns out there are two wires, a black one with a fuse, which leads to the black harness (idk what you call it, but its the black box where all the wires leading to the lights are attatched to) right behind the lights switch, and a gray one leading to a small light bulb at the base of the steering column

I'm gonna say this was an addition by a previous owner. Maybe an auxiliary interior light?

Mineros,
You know how they say a picture is worth 1000 words? A "what is this" post is definitely one of those cases.
I suggest setting up a free photobucket account, and downloading either the iphone or android app. Once you've uploaded a picture of this mysterious thing, open photobucket in your web browser, find the picture, on the right is a section called share. Click on the img field, and it will copy a share URL to your copy-paste buffer. Open up a reply to this thread, and paste that URL in. Hit Preview to verify the picture, and Submit it!
My bet is that your mystery object is a left handed smoke shifter. A power one since it's wired to your dash.
Cheers,
Duane

Sounds more like an actuator for a disgronificator to me.
