Boogered up Cab
I live in NW Florida. Hurricane Ivan dropped a very large tree limb on the cab of my 68. Pretty bad dent which also revealed bondo already there. I'm thinking of cutting the roof off another truck (if I can find one) and welding it onto mine. Can you guys tell me what years will fit if I can't find another 68 ???

re: Boogered up Cab
All '67-'72 cabs are the same, the only difference being in the transmission tunnel area....trucks with automatics have a solid integral tunnel, whereas trucks with a manual transmission have a bolt-on cover with a shifter boot.
To be honest with you, I think you'd be much happier exchanging cabs for a good rustfree version, rather than trying to replace just the roof. I mean, you'd pretty much have to strip the interior either way, but by replacing the cab you won't have the hassle with trying to get everything lined up perfectly on more than one plane, so that the windows and doors are correct.
There are complete running donor trucks up on E-bay all the time for less money (and time involved) than what I think you'd have invested in trying to replace just the roof. You could just grab the cab and then resell everything else back on E-bay and likely even make a profit.
Just my

re: Boogered up Cab
Thanks for the suggestion. As most of you probably know, there is a fine line between getting what you want and keeping the boss (wife) happy. When I look at the 68, I get excited at what the finished product will someday be. When she looks, she sees a piece of junk in the yard. "See, I told you it was a piece of junk, you have to replace the whole cab!" So, to appease the boss, I'm probably gonna try to fix what I got, first. Then when it becomes too big of an ordeal, probably replace the cab.

Re: re: Boogered up Cab
This must not hold true for all years as my 72 Automatic has a bolt on cover. (just no place for a boot, its a solid cover, but removeable)FORDification wrote:All '67-'72 cabs are the same, the only difference being in the transmission tunnel area....trucks with automatics have a solid integral tunnel, whereas trucks with a manual transmission have a bolt-on cover with a shifter boot.
(Or I misunderstand what you are saying.)

I believe pickups with either the 4-speeds or the C6 will have the bolt-on hump. A C6 will clear without the bolt-on hump but you will not be able to remove the tranny by itself as it will jam up.

re: Boogered up Cab
Robert, you understood what I said correctly, I was just incorrect in what I said. I should have known better, since my automatic-equipped cab also has a bolt-on cover with no holes. My mistake. Thanks, Barry, for pointing that out.
