Weather Strip installation
For my 1968 F100. How is the weather strip installed under the door sill plate?

Re: Weather Strip installation
The flap on the inner side folds out flat and gets sandwiched under the sill plate. This is the flap that "grabs" the door frame all the way around. Hope that helps...

Will folding it flat create a problem with the carpeting? it seems to get very thick in that area.

Re: Weather Strip installation
It may be thick, but the sill plate just screws down on top of it all and holds it in place. Under my sill plate is Dynomat, carpet, and weathstripping... Pretty thick but the sill holds it all there.

Re: Weather Strip installation
I don't know if i was missing some easy way to do it, but It was a total wrestling job to get that weatherstrip installed. After trying my best to avoid it, I still ended up with a gap in the weather strip. Here are my recommendations, and a couple of pictures.
1) Some adhesive will help stick the strip around the door. I used just a few dots every 8-10 inches. It ALMOST stayed on by itself, unless I brushed up against it getting in and out. A little bit of glue helped significantly.
2) It's going to be a pain in the ass to open an close the doors until the stuff crimps down a bit. Others have suggested adjusting the door latches to compensate. I haven't done it yet, I just shut the door like I'm angry, and wrestle with the door latch paddle on the inside every time I get out of the truck.
3) After a great deal of fighting with the passenger door, when I did the driver door, I used some spray adhesive and clamps to glue the weather strip to the threshold. This made installing somewhat easier. Probably enough to justify doing it.
4) to fill the gap in the weaather strip, I cut a small wedge, cut the back off (the part that goes under the threshold) and stuffed it inside the hollow center, both on the wedge, and the rest of the weather strip. I think it looks ok.
There's my Good luck!
Cheers,
Duane

Thank you Duaneo, those pictures are worth a thousand. I wrestled with those strips and finally I decided to get help. Your installation looks great, thanks again.

Re: Weather Strip installation
I went to the dollar store and picked up two packs of clothe hangers and used them to hold the weatherstrip in place. A couple 3/8" acid brushes worked wonders too. Just prehang the weatherstrip and unclip it as you need to so you can apply the glue. Let the glue set up for a couple minutes and then set the weatherstrip in place and clip it again. results were pretty good but I did end up with some dimples where the clips held it a bit tight.

Re: Weather Strip installation
The carpet isnt suppose to go over or under the weatherstrip. When using the yellow stuff in a tube squirt it inside the rubber and keep squeezing it as you run it through the rubber. Push it onto the tang as you get the glue inside the rubber.
