You know they don't look bad without the pad. I have no immediate plans to replace the pad on my 69. I can live with the factory holes.

I Agree for the look you get with no pad it's hard to spend $500.00 For A new one.

The cheapest I have seen is $400. Still way too much and it does look nice without the pad anyway.AZf100 wrote:I Agree for the look you get with no pad it's hard to spend $500.00 For A new one.

Re: Thanks for the tips pad is off!
The plastic dash caps that are available don't look bad at all and just glue to your old pad. Just a thought.

Re: Thanks for the tips pad is off!
Has anybody used some stainless button head allen bolts in the dash holes rather than weld and paint? I miss having an all metal dash...

I haven't tried that. Might look good. Post pics if you do that.

Looks good. I've got a nice dash pad on mine. I would rather not have one. I like the metal look better.. I'd take mine off, but its a different color under it. I'm sure that would be a major project to paint and get it to look good.

Re: Thanks for the tips pad is off!
I don't have the pad on mine as the original pad is badly cracked. My original plan was to do something like this, using vinyl or velour, to cover the pad and reinstall it.
I'm not going for 100% original with my interior anyway, but I have to admit that I do like the look of the metal dash.
So, for now at least, I'm going to be going with the metal dash and may stay with it.

Re: Thanks for the tips pad is off!
All of the trim would have to come off and then be put back after painting. The cluster, heater controls and all switches should be removed and reinstalled. You wouldn't necessarily have to weld the holes in the top of the dash. You could use small 3"x3" inch pieces of fiberglass cloth or mat applied from underneath and then fill and sand from the top. That's what I'm thinking anyway.jlb wrote:Looks good. I've got a nice dash pad on mine. I would rather not have one. I like the metal look better..
