Re: Firewall insulation pad
I got mine in the mail, pulled it out of the box and didn't even try to fit it. I wasn't happy at all with the stitching job on the lower rubber trim. Not only is the trim very crooked, but the stitching is horrible. The stitching is even more crooked than the trim, it's missing stitches in many places, some stitches have already pulled out and the stitches even stop and start again in different places, go back and rerun over the same place in others.

Re: Firewall insulation pad
I realize this is a nearly 1-year old thread, but I am in the position of needing to install a firewall cover. I am doing it in a functioning truck, not one that has been stripped out. Is it a big job?

Re: Firewall insulation pad
You'll have to pull the heater box. You can get away with not pulling the steering column and clutch rod, by cutting a slice into the pad, but I would at least pull the clutch rod if you have one. I'd also take the accelerator pedal off the rod, as it makes it easier. I'd pull the emergency brake pedal assembly and fuse block, but you could also cut around those and make them fit, it just depends on how you want it to look and fit. Cutting around the heater and choke cables, etc is also optional.

Re: Firewall insulation pad
Be careful removing the nuts on the parking brake bracket. Ive twisted off the bolts on quite a few of them

I did the same on mine this time. Found another unit on ebay for $30 and installed it last night.

Hah, yep, mine both broke off when I pulled mine, but JUST enough was left to fix the end thread and bolt it back up.

Re: Firewall insulation pad
I had that happen to me. I cut the spacers off where the bolt goes in and replaced them with 1 in. spacers, drilled holes in bracket and used bolts that would go thru the bracket, spacers, and firewall. Worked out pretty good.fordman wrote:Be careful removing the nuts on the parking brake bracket. Ive twisted off the bolts on quite a few of them

Re: Firewall insulation pad
What other options are there? Iv looked at the two ebay listings ... none in stock. Iv looked at the ABS molded ones at DC and LMC. I saw a post above where some one listed a vendor as MAC Im not familiar with that one. I need one soon. Was planning on buying the ABS one but If I could save big bucks .... well everyone nows how that is.

Damplifier http://store.secondskinaudio.com/dampli ... 10-sheets/
Followed by heat wave http://store.secondskinaudio.com/heat-wave-pro/
Followed by carpet with a bound edge. Like the Rangers had.
Just a suggestion..

Re: Firewall insulation pad
I had checked on that one as well. E-mail the supplier. Said he sold 20 or so in the last three months and no complaints yet.
I am considering it.
