67 steering colmn in 69. plug help

Post by chvyeatr »

Hey guys,
The column in my 1969 f250 Camper was at some point replaced with a later 70s tilt column and lots of parts were left off in the transfer.

I found a 67/68 column in a f350 that was totally complete from rag joint to horn ring and I'm trying to finish this re-conversion.

The problem is the wiring harness plug on the 67 column does not match the plug on the 69. Below is what I have:

1969 plugs under dash that where disconnected from column, 8 wires in:

open------(2) red/blk stripe------------lt blue
- - -
- - -
(2) wt/lt blue -- (2)grn/wht sripe---- lt blue/ yellow strip
stripe

plug2: a two port plug with: orange/purple stripe------- blue/ yellow stripe

The plugs on the 67/8 column are:

open----------yellow/brwn stripe---------------red/blk stripe-----------------purple
- - - -
- - - -
green----------wt/blue stripe---------------------green/wt stripe---------------purple/yellow stripe

plug2: this comes from the neutral switch-

black/red stripe---------------black/red stripe--------------red/blue stripe----------------red/blk stripe

Thanks in advance for help on pairing these up!

Like spaghetti? :D It really helps if you have a printer and can print these out, especially on 11x17 paper.

I'm attaching some snips of the color codes of the various years for quick reference. Fortunately, while Ford changed wire colors from year to year, they at least kept the numbering consistent by application. The main wires involved in stop/tail/turn are just about about always 282, 283, 285 and 140 on the rear, and 3, 11 on the front. By comparing those numbers and associated wire colors on the charts, you can just about nail it down to where you only have the NSS wires to figure out. Sorry, I don't really have time right now to detail all that out but maybe this will help you out somewhat. I can't stand to see a post go unanswered :(

Thank you sir! I am going to print these out and digest them.. These old schematics are kind of crazy compared to the ones I'm used to looking at today!
