I would start at the ignition switch and work back, use this diagram it is a little easier to read http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... rging2.jpg Start with the Yellow wire #21 and see if it has power on it (it is supposed to) then follow it back to where it spits for the Headlights and the fuse box #25 and 37A, then it just goes in the harness to the firewall out the front where you have checked it so far... You'll just have to find where the power is dropping out, but you should be able to see where it has melted the wires where the problem is...
Note: this diagram is for the idiot lights so the connector where the power wire goes through the firewall will be different but the rest is the same.

I'll add that you might want to pick up a Test Light there about $5-10 and you can get them at the local parts stores or Walmart, etc.. it will be easier to use, you just clip the one end on ground spot and the other is a sharp point so you can stick the wire through the outer cover (I usually get my finger once in a while
) and the light will come on if it has power on it.

Reviving an old thread here but I am wondering if you figured out what the problem was with your '70? Thanks.

I'm guessing the fusible link at the solenoid was the culprit. No?
