Power Steering install Questions

Post by JDunk »

Hey y'all i am beginning to convert my 1967 F100 to power steering and i have a few problems that need dealt with.

- I recently acquired a power steering column ( auto trans like mine) from a 1976 f100. Everything on the cab side of the column, such as the steering wheel, shift collar, gear indicator/pointer,and turn signal lever, is really ugly so i'd like to swap all of that stuff with the original equipment from my manual column. Is that possible?

Your post is confusing. First you suggest that you have an auto then manual.

First, the steering wheel from a 76 will not fit a 67 without modification.

Second, all of the other components are not interchangeable from manual to auto or vice-versa.

If you tell us exactly what your truck has and exactly what your recently acquired column has, we may be able to give better advice.

What i meant to say is that my original column is for an automatic transmission but is not a power steering column. My new 1976 column is for an automatic transmission and is also a power steering column. I would like to swap the shifter, gear indicator, turn signal system, horn assembly, and steering wheel from my original column to the new column. Sorry for the confusion.

I think everything will swap except for the steering wheel. I believe that the shaft is a bit longer on the 76 model, but you could trim it to fit and then close the gap at the steering wheel and shift collar by adjusting the tube and clamp at the dash.
