duraspark wont turn off with key

Post by rubberrodder »

We put a duraspark into my 68 f100, 302. We got it to fire up and it runs great, till we shut off the key.And it just keeps purring like a happy kitten. We have to pull dizzy plug at the box, or the coil wire, or smother the carb with a rag to kill it. What did we do wrong? My buddy that "helped" swears it's on a switched power source. What color code wire from the switch should we tapped into? What color wire is actually the "hot" on this blue grommet box? I know it sounds dumb, but I am at a loss here. ANY color code info would help.

Here's where I tapped into my switch. Mine is a '70 so not sure if our wire colors would be the say. The fat pink wire beside it is the resistor wire that must be bypassed. That blue connector clipped onto the red/yellow wire is where I hooked my feed to the Duraspark. Also, here's the diagram I used as reference. By box had a red and a white wire. I ran the red wire to that clip on my ignition switch and the white wire across the firewall over to my starter solenoid to the "S" terminal.

I hooked up the coil positive to the Existing coil wire.

I then hooked the red wire from the duraspark box to the i terminal on the solenoid (leaving the existing wire there as well)

Worked like a charm done it on 3 old fords now.
