1969 F350 Dually Daily Driver (Triple D)
Dually
Daily
Driver
Otherwise known as the Triple D, is my 1969 F350 I purchased to use as a daily driver.
I bought this truck a week ago in Denton Texas. It needed very little (electrical) but it ran and drove great! I bought her on the spot and have been driving her since. It has been a fantastic truck so far with no problems. Well, the wiring has been troublesome but other than that it has been good. She has a 390 and a 4 speed. So far I have done a couple things like a bit of wiring and I got some new mud flaps. I discovered a leak recently and I need to clean her up and see where it is coming from. She runs and drives good. I got about 100 miles on just a little more than half a tank. Oh and speaking of tanks a buddy of mine gave me some stuff from his '68 including saddle tanks, mirrors, and an under dash A/C unit. Good stuff.
I will post here with updates as I work on the ol girl. Plans are to make her a good daily. Soon I hope to get the leak fixed and eventually I would like to get a 4 barrel but thats later down the road. Ok enough chit chat heres some photos!

Thanks! I am loving it so far! I did some work to her tonight. New clearance lights on the bed and I found the clearance lights needed for the fenders. I will get a photo of them tomorrow. For now here's a photo from this morning.

Re: 1969 F350 Dually Daily Driver (Triple D)
Been doing a good bit of driving in her. This past weekend I put over 250 miles on her traveling through Texas. With the 390. 2 barrel carb, 4 speed, and something like 4:10 rear gears and I am getting right at 11 MPG combined highway and city. On my trip I did mainly 60-65 mph on the highway. Knocked on the 70 mph door coming off some hills. Ol girl did really well. Yesterday I wired up the radio that came with the truck. Also threw in a new speaker. Removed the dash pad as well since it was cracked up bad. Today at work I did some horse trading and got some West Coast Jr mirrors. Going to see about mounting them tomorrow. I am really liking this ol girl!

Great looking truck.
One upgrade that will help is to go to electronic ignition, it may also give you slightly better mileage. There are three ways to do it;
1) Petronix - a module that replaces your points ( go with the II $25)
2) Dura-spark - original Ford unit can be found on later FEs installed in pickups ( Used or ebay $?)
3) EBAY - Buy a HEI style distributor for the FE ( $90 and up)
I have done the Dura-spark and it was fairly easy. There is also a way of using the GM HEI Module with the stock Dura-spark distributor. With my new engine build I bought a HEI Style dist. off Ebay.

Re: 1969 F350 Dually Daily Driver (Triple D)
Awesome!! Thanks!!
I have been doing quite a bit to the ol girl in the past week or so. I got my mirrors mounted up and looking better than the old ones. I also picked up some gauges (oil, temp, batt) and found out my oil pressure is OK (10 PSI per 1K RPM is what I am getting), my batt was charging (right under 14) but my temp would not go above 130? (gauge bottoms out at 130) So, I got to looking and noticed I had no thermostat in the truck. Called up the local parts store and they did not have a 180 but did have a 192 so that is what I got. Shes running 180 cruising and when I am at lights or in town it is normally 185 or so. Hits 200 after I shut her down. Noticed my power valve in my carb is faulty. Need to fix that this weekend.
Couple other things I did was fix my oil leak. I thought it was the oil pan gasket and even bought a new one but I got to looking more and noticed that my dipstick tube was broken and leaking like crazy. Reason for breaking was these dang headers on the truck. Dipstick tube rubbed on them and caused strain until it snapped in half. Luckily I had another tube. Before I put it in I heated it up and bent it some to clear the header. All is well now, and no leaks!
Tonight I worked on a bit of wiring. I got my interior dome light mounted on a toggle switch since it was not working with the headlight switch. Also got a LED bulb for the floor board light. That dome light is so bright without a lens that a floorboard light is really not needed.
I decoded my VIN last night and found some interesting info. The seller told me it has a 390 but the tag says she has (or had) a 360. Not sure if the engine is original or not. Need to measure her. But here is the info I got when I decoded her. BTW thanks Fordification for the awesome decoding info!!!
VIN F35YRF10969
F35 = F350
Y = 360 cid, 8 cyl
R = Assembly Plant. San Jose, CA
F10969 = Unit Number. May 1969
Other tag info
135" wheelbase
Color Code M = Wibledon White
Model Code = "F351" 10,000 GVW
Body Code = "2 81" (81 is Conventional Cab) 2 is F100/350 Custom Cab. Light blue Corinthian vinyl and light blue woven thong repeat vinyl
Trans Code = "A" 4-Speed New Process 435
Rear Axle Code = "27" Dana 70, 4.10
Max GVW = "08000"
Cert. Net HP. = "175"
R.P.M. = "4000"
D.S.O. (Domestic Special Order) = "75" Phoenix
Thats about all for now. Tomorrow I am going to see about mounting some headache rack lights. Heres a couple new photos. I need to get a better daytime photo now that I have the mirrors on!

Looking better. I think I would rattle can the wheels and front bumper silver or white. Black just doesn't appeal to me.
I also sell a version of the dome lamp covers that actually project light.

Re: 1969 F350 Dually Daily Driver (Triple D)
I saw your VIN decode, and the 135" wheelbase caught my eye. I assumed all the F350s came with 159", but a quick check proved me wrong. I like it - the shorter wheelbase looks great with the dually set up

Few more things have happened. Got some reverse lights mounted up. Also some turn signal lights on my mirrors. Bought a carb rebuild kit and hope to rebuild my carb soon. Fixed my oil leak as well. Turned out to be a broken dipstick tube. Put a new one on and no more leaks. All is well in candyland
