Does anyone know what this part is called and where I can either buy a new one or find pieces to make a replacement?
This is a panel (or whatever you call it) that is connected between the fan switch and the fan inside my dealer-installed AC evaporator unit. All the electrical components are working properly, but the coating on the cylinder is brittle and coming off, and it is apparently getting hot enough to melt some nearby plastic on the housing. I'd like to take care of that issue while I have the evaporator unit apart.

Re: AC Electrical Part ID
It looks to be the blower motor resistor, (that controls how much electrical voltage the blower motor receives-thus controlling the speed of the motor).Gray035 » Wed May 03, 2017 12:27 pm

Did it come out of the plenum area as in this picture part# 18591, (upper right in this image)?

Yes. It came out of the plenum. Do you think I could replace it with a resistor that controls the heater fan? Those also run on three speeds I think

When I rebuilt my factory under dash AC unit, I used a heater resistor from a '69-'70 Torino. The plug was the same and the mounting holes even lined up. About 3/4 down toward the bottom of this page. https://m.fordification.com/forum/viewt ... 3&start=45 Got it from CG Ford Parts https://cgfordparts.com/ufolder/fordpar ... OZ-18591-A

Re: AC Electrical Part ID
I wouldn't try that unless you had no other choice as resistors are sized for a certain / dedicated current load.Gray035 » Tue May 09, 2017 10:20 am

Randy above is "barking up the right tree" here-(find one for a factory air around the same year if possible or a junkyard part even if it were mine).
