If any one ever hears me say I'm going to paint a firewall

Post by DuckRyder »

If any one ever hears me say I'm going to paint a firewall again please stop me. What a PITA.

I have everything off, and I do mean everything. It is as bare as the day it was born.

It had some crap seam sealer behing the inner fenders too, so I had to redo all of that. :x

I'll get the frame POR-15ed over the weekend and wet sand the firewall, then it is off to my freinds shop to paint it next week.

Egads this thing is costing a fortune.

The firewall still isn't painted (never trust freinds to do stuff they say they will) now I have to sand the darned thing again! :x

Paint is a total PITFA thats why you should do it all at once or never at all! Looks like your motor is looking Great, but what about those inner fender supports that look all rusted? Are you going to do something with those if u are replacing the firewall paint. Sounds like a pita, just stick with it! Are their any cliffs by ur house?

Inner fender supports? Look rusted?

What you talkin bout willis? :? :hmm:

I have new inner fenders to go on it, the whole firewall down into the trans tunnel will be painted (as will the frame back to the front of the bed, see how this thing snowballs?) Reusing the core support after some por patch and paint.

I'll try to get new pictures over the weekend, it is coming further apart which is not really the goal.

Ordered more stuff today (D-C, NPD, California Pickup) I tried to order from LMC, but their ordering system seems to be messed up. I gave up.

I'm finished taking stuff off. The Column is back in just to be able to load it on the roll back and steer it around the shop. 3 (loose) bolts come out and it is out.

One more frame scrub an'd I'm painting the frame rails and cross members. I'm going to sand the firewall again as a bit of surface rust popped up on the left side. (the biggest portion of the red stuff is actually primer, wax and grease remover wipes the blue off if you scrub much.)

I'm ready to be going back together, this is dragging out WAY longer than I wanted. :x
