Power steering conversion
Well in taking a stab at converting my 71 f-100 4wd to power steering. Missing pulley and bracket. But using gm power steering pump. Then have to figure out the steering coupler. Wish me luck. If anyone has any pointers.

Re: Power steering conversion
It's going to be a while till I get my '69 4X4 on the road again but by that time I feel that there will be an electric power steering kit conversion for our trucks. I found one on JEG's for $1,500 and for all the knuckle busting, bandages, holes to drill, beer to drink, I think if I can go electric I most certainly will. Will keep you all in the loop for the progress. Right now I need to find a decent, reliable source for media blasting. Soda blast will be my absolute last resort. Everything around here is high pressure sand for oil field and small jobs like we all have is looked down upon by the backward hat bubble sunglass wearing talking armpit bearded 33 inch tire jacked up diesel one ton driving jocks who think I owe them a living. At $27,000 it might be well worth my while to purchase my own glass blaster, do some jobs plus our own then sell the business.

Re: Power steering conversion
Check out my project thread. I've gone through 1000# of Black Diamond Fine Fury with a $30 open pot blasting rig and a 21gal Harbor Freight air compressor.

Other than having a 60 gallon compressor, I use the same setup for my blasting needs.sargentrs wrote:Check out my project thread. I've gone through 1000# of Black Diamond Fine Fury with a $30 open pot blasting rig and a 21gal Harbor Freight air compressor.

Wow you guys are the greatest and Thank You for "re-directing" my thinking! Overthinking a project can be a real stickler. Gravity feed is certainly the way to go around here. I may have to upgrade my air compressor though. Thanks for your replies and kinda out here in the middle of nowhere I have to be careful about travel costs and with winter coming on your input will give me decent time to get things in order for spring.

Re: Power steering conversion
I found the part number for the power steering conversion kits. I found it on the JEG's website "EPAS Performance Electric Power Steering Conversion Kit" 1969 to 1976 F100 p/n 1013. Cost is $1,450. In the comment section it was asked about the 4X4 and yes this kit fits my '69 4X4 but not the '68. Am just hoping my '67 donor cab will fit my '69 4X4 frame. On the sandblasting question I will purchase a open pot blaster unit and a much better air compressor most likely a 220V motor. Will have to research the Black Diamond Fine Fury product, sounds great.

Re: Power steering conversion
I like the Black Diamond. It's made from coal slag and it's black. Comes in different grits. I use the 20/40 for really rusty/nasty areas like the frame and 30/60 for parts that will be more visible. They have a 40/80 that's more appropriate for body sheet metal. Most stores don't stock much of it though. Doesn't generate as much heat as sand and doesn't retain moisture. I've left my pot half full over the winter or for months at a time and the media was still dry and blasted like it was fresh out of the bag. I get mine from Tractor Supply. $8 for a 50 lb. bag. I used about 16 bags just blasting my frame. Starting recycling but after awhile said forget that. It soaked into the ground over a few rainfalls.
