I'd worry that there wasn't anything sturdy enough to hook the shoulder part to. Seems like it'd just pull out of the cab sheetmetal.

Re: Deadly accident in boise today
Apparently they have some kind of grommet for this from the factory, but it was never used for production belts. I would imagine that this mounting location would have enough strength.heviarti wrote:I'd worry that there wasn't anything sturdy enough to hook the shoulder part to. Do you think the extensions on the shoulder part are necessary for a Bumpside?91Bear wrote:I got mine from here and installed them myself. Black shoulder and lap belts with aircraft-style latches.

Re: Deadly accident in boise today
What he's talking about is whats in the dentsides. I have a 78 seat that has a latch on each side that will not allow the back of the seat to fold forward unless you pull up on a lever. My 67 seat had nothing whatsoever that kept the back of the seat from folding forward.OldRedFord wrote:Seat latches? You mean seat belts?
The article I saw said the truck did not have seat belts.

Yup. latches. Will the late seats bolt in I wonder?
The news video showed the whole seat go forward and up, like it was hinged at the front. The steering wheel woulda ended up in his lap.

When I bought my Bumpside I swapped in the seat from my '83 F150. It has the latches you guys are talking about. I think I had to swap the seat pedestal brackets from the Bumpside seat onto the '83 seat, but it was a really simple job.heviarti wrote:Will the late seats bolt in I wonder?

LMC sells a 3 point kit now. But I'm putting a 5 point harness in mine.

Re: Deadly accident in boise today
what right did that kind in the caddilac have to take the other mans life?! revenge is one thing but to namelessly kill a stranger. and have no reason other than it was an accident! i am torn up over this and it makes me sick to even read or hear about this. and i mean it hurts me inside not just saying i am sorry this happen. but i feel down and want to just give up everything and go off some place and never ever see or hear another person ever again until i can cope with this kind of bull! and i dounbt i ever wil get over this kind of sick treatment of other people. that is why i do not watch the news. treat your fellow person with respect. dotn go namelessly into the night looking to bop around a jungle or desert. you will be responsible for the rest of your life!

Can't believe it. Very sad for the family of the bump driver. Do they know yet if it had to do with alcohol?

Re: Deadly accident in boise today
My condolences to the truck owners family. Like Dustin said that highboy took one heck of a hit. Although there is a u-joint in the steering column the impact likely drove the wheel back into his chest. Lack of a seat belt only compounded the problem.
For those looking at seat belts here's a pic of mine during installation.
All of the bumps I've seen have the 3rd anchor point that is shown in the pics Keith posted. The anchor points in all of them I've looked at were drilled for 3/8" bolts but not tapped. The belts I bought came with 7/16" bolts like the original belts have. I used grade 8 fine thread 3/8" bolts with hardened washers and made spacers so the clip could pivot freely. On final installation I used thread locker on the bolts. As an extra measure of safety I used bolts the were long enough to be jamb nutted. I had to remove the fuel filler to install the jamb nut on the left side but I'm confident the bolts will NOT back out.

Re: Deadly accident in boise today
Good afternoon,
I just thought I'd add that I bought a pair of "BEAMS Chrome Lift Lever Retractable Lap & Shoulder Belts" from SeatBeltPros.com in Fall 2008. I chose the "7500" yellow color, which turned out very bright just like I wanted. I chose the 140" web length. The total with shipping was $156.65.
I haven't installed them yet but their quality looks very nice!
