Re: under dash heater,A/C unit
That was from memory. After looking at the libk sarge posted. I relized that i disconnected the hoses from the engine and removed them with the box.
Its illegal to let off the coolant into the air. But sometimes the coolant can leak out in its own. But you could take truck to place and have them remove it and replace it when done.

As you know, that's R-12. I don't think I can buy that as a consumer. Will I have to take it somewhere or can I put R-134A in it?

Re: under dash heater,A/C unit
If the previous owner had core changed before you got it. Then r 12 is probably gone. Of your fill ports have blue and red caps you have r134a. If black its probably r12. http://www.google.com/search?q=r134a+ad ... B512%3B384

Re: under dash heater,A/C unit
I'm beginning to think the heater core hasn't been changed. When I take the glove box liner out the refrigerant lines connection is right there. It has that glob of wrap around the connections? Well it looks like it has never been removed, so I would say its the original core. As for the fill caps, they are the original aluminum coned caps. I'm gonna start the process today. I am dreading it. Thanks for all the help.

Re: under dash heater,A/C unit
Ok, now I'm having trouble finding a new core WITH A/C. All the ones I can get have without a/c. They appear to be different ports. Does anyone have any suggestions. I thought about having to have a radiator shop re-core it, but I think I'd rather find a new one..

Re: under dash heater,A/C unit
My dad has a radiator shop. He said those cores are unavailable. He told me thos several years ago. I did a search a few years ago and found someone who had one or two new ones. Maybe npd. I think they were in florida. Anyway. Dad said if i ever needed one. Was toborder a standard one. And to change the outlet top on it from my old one. Thats what youll have to do. Is find a shop who will change the outlet top

Re: under dash heater,A/C unit
Fortunately, we have a local radiator repair shop that has been in business for 40 years Bobby Seay, radiator repair shop. I walked in this afternoon with a core and he said right away, you'd be better off to buy that heater core, I said this one is obsolete. He knew right away what it came off of, after looking at it. Is this a Ford truck? Yes.. 68 - 72? Yes. He said if I can't find it, I'll make you one. I said you can do that? Oh yes. I just made one for a 34' Plymouth. Leave it with me and I'll fix you up. I thanked him and left. Nice nice nice.
Needless to say the core was leaking, bad. You could see it.
Now I need a/c parts. Because of the long time leak, the interior metals were rusted through. I need parts- 19804-B, 19C885, 19849, 19860 and probably a compressor line. I don't have a parts list with names, just numbers. You guys have helped so much, please help some more. Thanks Charlie

Youll probably end up having to clean the rust off and reuse those parts.

Re: under dash heater,A/C unit
I can't. I have to at least find the evaporator valve # 19849. One of the lines on that valve was broken. The other parts I could deal with.
I have found ford kept the same # on that valve but just added a letter at the end of the number A-B-C and so one. Will any of them work? I found one for a 76 maverick. ????????

No, it looks more like this. I'm not sure this is correct but it looks similar. http://autopartsobsolete.smugmug.com/Az ... 1546-M.jpg

How about this one? It's for a Mustang but same era and similar part number. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sdk-c ... 7AodAm4AOw Be sure and post up your progress, with pics if possible. I'll be doing the exact same thing, probably in a year or so, and I know absolutely nothing about AC.

Re: under dash heater,A/C unit
I found that alot of ford parts fit multipule applications. However all may not be designed exactly the same. The following link may tell more about presures and how these valves work. I didnt read much of it. But know pressure may have to do with valve put on a certain system. http://www.ac-heatingconnect.com/how-th ... -txv-work/
Im sure generic valves can be had to fit and work with our systems.

Re: under dash heater,A/C unit
This is the new heater core. Bobby bought a 2" thick core and cur it to a 6"x6" core size and soiled red my top and bottom to it. Tested and good as new. Wow -what a job. Remember when you can't find it, make it.
