The blankets are to help keep the heat in the exhaust system and out of the engine compartment. You can use the blankets or header wrap if they will be near parts that don't like heat.

mljjones is correct, these blankets are a bit more expensive but way better than the normal ones you can get from jegs or summit or especially from ebay and much much better than just header wrap. I have talked to guys that have ran their egt probes up to 2000* and imediately put their hands directly on the blankets (ie: turbine housing) and leave it there without feeling much heat. These blankets will help make spool up much faster which is a great thing since I am using such a large pair of turbos for this little engine.
Now for an update. My daughter helped and she is proud to tell you, by the way she is 3 going on 30. LOL
Here ya go. PS these things are a pain to install after the 100th time!!!
Oh and the ceramic finish looks a little dull in the pics but in person it looks like new chrome, very shiny. The flash kinda killed the shine.

Re: 67 F100 Crown Vic suspension, Diesel engine, disc brakes
This build is great carcrafter!...
I have a couple of questions about the rack and pinion steering and brake system. Will a stock manual steering column from a 70 f100 accept the CV rack and pinion, or is the tilt column swap from a later f100 necessary? Also, the hydroboost takes the place of the powerbrake booster correct? So since I do not have power brakes, installing a hydroboost will give me power brakes, correct?
Thanks for the help.

The tilt columns and the originals come through the cab at the same angle and position, so either should work.

You can use any column you want, you just have to use ujoints and some DOM steel tube to connect the two just like they do in any race car.
The hydroboost applies way more pressure to the brakes than any vaccum booster and uses power steering fluid pressure to do so, this will give you power brakes but they feel different than a vaccum assisted setup and will help brake better, you will have to have power steering to make it work though.

You also have to have disc brakes to use H-boost. It will not work with front drums. Drums will behave very erratic with H-boost.
And very nice work! Can't wait to see how the IRS works under the truck. I've heard the late ford car IRS is pretty wide, like 67" or something wms-wms. Is that going to be an issue at all for your truck?

Stock f100 power steering setup will work with the hydroboost or does it need to be upgraded?carcrafter22 wrote:you will have to have power steering to make it work though.

Re: 67 F100 Crown Vic suspension, Diesel engine, disc brakes
The lincoln IRS is 63" from hub to hub so installed some 1.25" spacers made from aluminum for now and I will be making some stainless steel spacers later on before I lean on it too much, I will also be upgrading all the bolts in the hub when I switch over to mustang cobra hubs. The way I have it setup right now it looks pretty good and fits inside the wheel wells very nicely, in fact the rear wheels are almost perfectly inline with the fronts even though both the front and rear is now wider than the original setup which should help handling.
I am not sure if the stock pump will work with the hydroboost or not, I would try it and see, I bet it would work although it may not be the best option. I cant say for sure how it would do exactly since I have never tried it. sorry.

Re: 67 F100 Crown Vic suspension, Diesel engine, disc brakes
I just wanted to thank you for showing this project. I have been watching it from afar for the last several months. It has worked out great for me and my students. Because I had access to about 3 1/2 retired or wrecked vic cop cars ranging from 97 to 04 I had every thing to restore and update my truck and didn't even know it til I seen your project. This had also been a good experience for my students. It has allowed me to cover most of the mechanical areas of a vehicle (brakes, suspension, electrical, and engine performance just to mention some). It also made me look kinda smart scene no one in my neck of the woods has never done this to one of these trucks as far as I know. When people ask me how did I come up with this idea I just say I seen some guy from Texas on the internet done it to his. LOL Thanks again!

Re: 67 F100 Crown Vic suspension, Diesel engine, disc brakes
I have been working on the IRS for the truck in the mean time and am almost done I just need to weld in the spring locators and round out the upper spring mounts for looks and clearance reasons then add bracing and thats it for welding. I will still need to grind all the welds for looks and install brake lines as well as a new rear u joint in the driveshaft but so far its coming together well. I also need to reinstall the 22 gallon mustang fuel tank.
Anyway here are some pics.

Re: 67 F100 Crown Vic suspension, Diesel engine, disc brakes
I just went to the store and bought some shocks. I would like to use bilstein shocks but there are no local dealers and I need something to install for now so I bought some monroe reflex shocks hopefully they will be ok. I also found some nice bumpstops from energy suspension at autozone I will be adding to my coil spring locators before I weld it all in. The shocks I am using are made for the front suspension on a 1980 chevy k series blazer 2wd if anyone cares. also I boxed everything in with 3/16th " plate and the crossmembers and front subframe mounts are made from 2x3 3/16" tube and the upper spring mounts are 3/8" plate braces with 3/16" plate. Spring locators are 3-2" schedule 40 weld reducer available at any large plumbing supply.

Re: 67 F100 Crown Vic suspension, Diesel engine, disc brakes
Ok I got a little more done, I basicly have grinding left to do then the brakes and the rear is finished.
These are the spring locators, I welded a 3/16" plate on the end and used the polyurethane bumpers on the ends for bumpstops.
Here is the upper spring plate reinforced with some spare 2x4 3/16" wall square tube, I used this because its strong and I had it left over from the crossmembers. I used the plasma cutter to cut the 3/8" plated into circles for clearance and looks. The upper shock mounts are also made from spare 3/16" plate I had laying around, I know its more than needed but hey its what I had.
