Re: Lift Blocks Legal??
Height is how they get you on a deal like that. I dont think it matters how you lift one in MO. I know of a couple of states that dont allow lift blocks on the front end, but everything I can find on the net says MO isint one of them.
Here you go: MISSOURI
4500lbs. or less front bumper must be 24 inches or less while the rear is limited to 26 inches... 4501-7500lbs. will get you 27 inches front and 29 inches rear... 7501-9,000lbs. will limit you to 28 inches front and 30 rear.
ALSO: IC 9-19-4-2
Sec. 2. When operated upon a highway, a motor vehicle registered as a truck with a declared gross weight of not more than eleven thousand (11,000) pounds must be equipped with bumpers of substantial construction on the extreme front and the extreme rear of the vehicle. The height of the front and rear bumpers may not exceed thirty (30) inches when measured from level pavement to the bottom of the bumper. As added by P.L.2-1991, SEC.7.

Re: Lift Blocks Legal??
fordtruck,
Papabug found it, (there's more links on the net that'll show you state by state regs on lift.
I remember many years ago there were a few states that actually made you do a sub-frame once you got so much lift in the truck, as well as lowering the headlights.
Some states are ridiculous.

DO NOT PUT BLOCKS IN THE FRONT!!!!! They are not acceptable in any form in the front under anything that drives on a public road.

If you use lift blocks in the front, I sincerely hope someone irreversibly disables your vehicle before you manage to injure or kill someone. Lift blocks in the front are for true idiots.

Re: Lift Blocks Legal??
Yeah, I dont know about it Brandon. The more I think about it, the more I dont like the idea. If you were just going to putt around town @ 25-30 MPH I guess it would be "ok". But, the first time you get in a hard turn & one of the blocks or U bolts shifts. . . Look out.
careful.

Re: Lift Blocks Legal??
Good evening,
Although I'll probably never lift a truck this topic's interesting to me.
Would somebody be willing to explain the basics regarding why these blocks are so dangerous? What risks do they introduce?
Y'all have an excellent week!

Re: Lift Blocks Legal??
i think putting lift blocks on the front make it bad because it could act like a pyramid. and topple the lift blocks even though they are square and bolted down. its not enough surface to give it a solid moutning when turning a corner or getting stuck. that is what i was led to believe.

Think lateral lever on a twist prone base........... Now add the force of turning (indirect lateral force at uneven loading and certainly heavily variable).

The front axle does 70% of the braking. Doesn't take a genius to figure this one out.

Re: Lift Blocks Legal??
I have personally seen what happens when lift blocks fail on the front end of a truck. this was done on a 79 f250 4x4 when theyu went to back out and turn at the same time the front left came appart. Can i prove it was the lift blocks? no but it was sitting a few feet away on the ground and appeared to have slipped out as the ubolts where still intact.

I think that's the key phrase, here. KInda' like, "Guess we'll just have to use this burn barrel in the house until we can afford a furnace." Except when your truck topples off of its lift blocks, not only are you in harm's way, so is the mom and her kids in the Focus in front of you.Doesn't take a genius to figure this one out.

Re: Lift Blocks Legal??
I'm not going to touch the lift blocks instead I'm gonna take the leaf packs off of my 72 Camper Special parts truck and combine some of its leafs with the pack on the highboy and make me a lift.

Re: Lift Blocks Legal??
Good idea , can't wait to see some pics of it once you get the leaf-packs put together and the truck lifted up !
*Edit: Scratch that out then I was unaware that the CS springs had a different width . You should go to the junk yard and find some springs with the same width and roughly the same size and put a pack together out of that, or extend your shackles like Josh suggested although I'm not sure how good of an idea that is either, I always thought it looked a bit sketchy when you see a truck lifted w/ extended shackles .
