another what its worth opinion
i quoted this guy 100.00 fo rthis gate. local pickup. he low balle dme at 75.00. i do not knwo how much this will actually cost me if i buy it to sell to him. it could be as high as 50.00 my cost. so what is the real price as seen in htese pictures if you had a chance to pick it up locally. 73-79 trailer special tailgate with all the chrome you see on it. no rust holes. very good shape.

Re: another what its worth opinion
It looks pretty good but the top has the common dents. I am thinking $60

Re: another what its worth opinion
Looks like a $75 dollar gate to me. It appears to be 100% complete.
I guess it depends on how bad he wants it.

I would think the top dents make it functional, but kill any value.

2 small dents on the inside? whats the deal here. surely that cant kill the value that bad. i know our tailgates even when perfect dont really go for over 200.00 with shipping. am i wrong here? 2 dents?

Around here a tail-gate in that condition would be worth around $75-100 IMO. I wouldn't say that those two small dents kill the value as most of the tailgates I've seen on parts trucks around here are beat to death, even my tail-gate isn't in the best shape .

Here, tailgates are $20. Mayyybe $50 max.
In a rusty area i'd say your $100 was a tad high, and his low ball was about right.

Re: another what its worth opinion
in this area of the rust belt finding a tailgate this old that isnt rusted out is hard. but it can be found. i found one. for the truck 1980 and up 50.00 top price. because they arent rusted outor beat up. or people dont keep the 80 and up trucks that long. so i dont know. mayeb i should ebay it and then keep it if i dotn get a good price. it has all that chrome on it to consider. if i took it off i could get more by seperating it from the tailgate. maybe well lets see what everyone else says.

Re: another what its worth opinion
Its got some dents in the top of it but what tailgate thats over 30 years old dont, to me its supply and demand, i dont know the rust conditions where you live at, but if 30 year old stuff is rusty and beat up than to me that makes it worth more to have a good tailgate. look how much it cost for a paper thin aftermarket ones. to me its worth $100 if i needed it. From what you showed on ebay you shouldnt have any problems getting that for it. Maybe you should prime it and circle the dents, seems to bring good money like that

Re: another what its worth opinion
Here's the deal- To anyone who wants to fix it, to repair that tailgate and put nice paint on it it's a total loss. There's no practical way to get the dents out of the top of that gate.
I have a few bumpside gates in 9 out of 10 shape and never paid a thing for them.

Re: another what its worth opinion
thank all of you so far for your opinions. i do have access to a stud gun and can propbably pull most of those two dents out. however for a show quality tailgate this one probably wont make it that far. i do know what the little circles for him did it seemed to work. and yes i try to do similar stuff myself. i am pretty sure this guy may think he can get one just as good for less or even free. he just made an offer that is all. myself what its worth is what you can get out of it. i dont know if i will accept his offer or do the ebay thing. stuff is so messed up right now i dont have the time to be cleaning and pulling dents so that probably wont get done to this one. i think what is really needed is some better pictues to show the true condition of this gate. anyway keep the opinions coming. i am not stuck on any opinion such as my own. or i wouldnt have posted.

Re: another what its worth opinion
no one ever buys them that expensive. but it does look good. too bad it doesnt have any of the emblems on it. that would ad to its value better.
