1962 Short Box onto 1976 Short Box Frame?

Post by Douglas Clark »

Being new to this forum and new to the restoration of older trucks. I am in need of some information. Will a 1962 short box bolt onto a 1976 short boax frame without modifications? I have a short box feetside that needs a new box. Living in Nebraska rust is an evil we live with daily. Any assistance would be helpful.

Thanks
Doug

I need to make a correction... the box I am attempting to get more information on is a 1964 box.
Not a 1962

The frame is wider on the 76 but I think with a little perserverance you could get it bolted on.

Ok from the information Keith posted here,

http://fordification.com/forum/viewtopi ... rame+width

and from what has been posted previously,

The 1964 has a wheel base of 112 inches. and the 1976 would be 116 or 117 depending on where you get your information. The source Keith quoted from says 117, but I got the 116 from some dealer sites who make chassis so....... (I think the difference is in the cab length from the wheel well back)

In 1973 the frame width on all the f-series, changed from 34 inches for the length and ,except the F250 4x4, were widened by 3 or 4 inches from behind the cab back, depending on where you get your information. The F250 4x4 stayed with the 34 in frame throughout until sometime during the 1977 run when they went narrow wide.

I was thinking about doing the same thing with the 61, putting it on a 77 that I could have gotten fairly cheeply but I decided I didn't want to deal with the wheel base difference.

I forgot about the wheelbase difference. Generally it is about two inches. On a stepside I guess you could relocate the fenders if you had more time than money.
