Attention 67' Truck owners, Knob Inserts

Post by klk67ranger »

Update 7/31/14: Parts are back from bright dip, they look great. I'm not happy with the material I used, it's more milky looking than the originals. I can't get the 5657 alm that Ford used unless I buy a 1,000 lbs of it (not happening). I'm going to use 5052 alm, it has a more chrome look like the originals. At this point I'm thinking around $40 for a kit that will have 10 inserts, installation tool, and instructions. I need to send my sample 5052 parts for bright dip anodize to make sure it looks as close as possible to the Ford ones. Here are pictures of the first proto run using 3003 alm

This is something that will take some time, but I will move forward. I have no idea how much a kit will cost at this point, depends on batch size, bright dip, and tooling investment.

Wow, what timing! I was just going to post a question on where I could find new inserts for my '67 knobs. Yes, I'd be interested!

By the way, a guy at work had some parts made at www.emachineshop.com. Basically, you download their software to draw up the machined item, then order as many as you want, in the material and finish of choice. If you order one, it's kind of expensive, because you're paying for their setup and tooling time, but if you order a bazillion, the price per unit starts going down. Dunno if this is more than you want to do, but you might check them out.

When you get an idea of cost, I'll be happy to put down a deposit for pre order. Do all my knobs and my radio.

Sounds worth while. Not enough '67 parts made aftermarket!!! This would be great!
