Am I crazy?

Post by Damon23 »

My headliner and trim is all there but in bad shape. The trim is pitted and oxidized real bad so I have to sand and paint it. The headliner is in one piece but bowed on both sides of the screw. Can I flatten it out by adding water to it and weight? I've been thinking (after seeing what I have to do for the VW westfalia headliner) about using veneer and staining it dark and then painting the trim nice and just running that. Any ideas on that? If I can flatten out the original one then I could just recover it but I have a feeling that it will fall back and look crappy again.

I tried that with my dentside... hosed it down, sandwiched it under a piece of plywood weighted with concrete blocks for three days. It was hot as hell too. After installation, it proceeded to warp back into oblivion.

I suggest cutting out and upholstering a piece of hardboard. Also consider using that lo-buck shower surround material which is waterproof on one side.

Thanks for the links. Been throwing around a bunch of different ideas. I got the trim pulled, sanded and ready to paint. They are just to pitted to try to polish out and I don't want to spend a bunch of money on them. I may use the veneer out of the vw bus we have seeing that it is a washed white. I just have to come up with a color to paint the trim.

Since you asked, yes, you are crazy. But that's okay, there's nothing wrong with crazy. :P
