Which comes first - firewall cover or carpet?

Post by sargentrs »

About ready to start assembling the interior. So do you put the carpet in first, then the firewall cover, or the other way around? If you put the firewall cover in first, do you install the carpet before you put the heater box and stuff bolted to the firewall in or will the carpet slide up under the firewall cover after it's in? Planning the next phase and need to know where to put my funds first. Thanks in advance!

I believe it's easiest to put the carpet in first. I put the firewall cover in, and then laid the carpet in for a test fit, and its not going to be too fun getting the carpet under the firewall cover. I also removed the heater box again because I know with it installed, getting the carpet under the firewall cover is going to be almost impossible.

Thanks but bummer. I was hoping to do it the other way around. It'll be awhile between phases and I'd hate for my carpet to get messed up in between. Oh well, I'll just have to accumulate everything and do it all at once. Thanks again!

how far does the carpet go behind the firewall cover. Heck, i already have my cover in. Did not want to put carpet in until i'm almost done crawling around on cab floor.

You can cut the carpet any length you want. It doesn't have to go up far under the firewall cover, but my carpet looked to go quite a ways under when I tried test fitting it. I wanted to keep it as long as it comes for as much sound deadening as I can get.
