Steering wheel dye or paint?

Post by guhfluh »

My steering wheel is stock, non power, 3 spoke. The plastic is colored red. I have seen other wheels that I thought were original that were black plastic and we're painted or dyed a different color, such as light green, yellow, white, etc. Currently a new wheel can be purchased in black only. Can they be painted or dyed? What process is done and what is used?

The process is to just sand and paint like the exterior of your truck. I would recommend a good quality 2 part (paint + hardener) paint as it tends to be more chemical resistant. Some paints can get gummy from the oils in your skin.

My light green one has worn away to the black plastic.
I was just going to get it painted..................eventually.
