so I finished my stereo install today. Here's what I've got.... retrosound model two, retrosound 4 channel amp, sound ordnance 8" low profile sub, 2 x 6.5" retrosound speakers / pods, 2 x sound ordnance 3.5" dash speakers.
I built a bracket out of 1/4" plexiglass for the dash speakers. It isnt' really the prettiest thing but should do the job. The bracket is mounted with 2 2" 1x24 machine screws with 1" nylon spacers to get it far enough below the dash to clear and nyloc nuts. I did have to drill 2 new holes to mount it. Everything else is under the seat.
what I found is that the retrosound has soooo many adjustments, it's kind of a PITA to get situated right. On the mounting brackets, you need to put them on ONLY the 2 forward screw holes to get the right radio depth. The knob shafts are almost all the way extended and come through the back of the dash tabs, through the infini bracket and then through the bezel. The retrosound "infinity" mounting brackets should get mounted to the FRONT of the stock stereo tabs.
I put sound deadener over the whole floor before installing the new floor mat. I should have not installed the sound mat all the way back as it made it really difficult to find bolt holes, install mounting screws, drill holes, etc. I'm not really sure if the bang is worth the buck on that...
I used ONLY the RCA hook ups from the Amp to the Stereo. There are a couple ways to connect between the two but the RCA is the cleanest sound it seemed like.
I mounted the bass adjust and IPOD / USB inputs in the glove compartment.
It sounds great and I'm really happy with the outcome. Yes it took me about 10 days of 30 minutes here and 30 minutes there but it was worth it.
Sorry for not doing a better job on the pictures but I spent most of my time herding my 2 and 3 year olds around the garage between 5 or 10 minutes of work at a time.

Re: retrosound model two
I just installed a restrosound Zuma in my 71 F250 4x4 a couple of months ago. I found all the same things with the brackets as you did.....only use the outside 2 screw holes.....once cut it works fine.
However the knobs they send are for the 73-79.....supposed to fit every model from 67-79. Yours doesn't look as bad as mine did....may just be the picture......but the rear knobs they send you are at first are too wide at the back.....meaning they don't fit into the taper of the radio faceplate.
I finally got the right knobs and this is what mine looks like. Sits back into the bezel correctly now. Rear knobs taper back to fit the bezel.
These are same shape.......chrome on chrome though.

Top left knob (with black and chrome is closest to original)...which is what I have:

I had the same problem with the knobs. I just brought the posts out a tad bit further and they clear without any problem. I think maybe I do like the looks of yours a little better though. Looks good!

Re: retrosound model two
The original radio had knobs that tapered back to clear the bezel. I had mine out like you did but seeing the threads bugged me......just sticking out too far. This is an original radio for these trucks. If you don't mind how it looks though....all good.

Re: retrosound model two
This thread was extremely helpful as i'm getting the same radio in a few months. I', planning on reproducing the stock radio knobs out of a nice hardwood to match what i'm doing to my interior.

Re: retrosound model two
I saw they have the Malibu model that has a 4" x 2" control face which is a perfect fit for the original bezel... The model 2 and Zuma control face is 1/2 smaller all around... How big a difference does this make. With the smaller control face do you need to use a faceplate to cover up the small gaps?

Re: retrosound model two
Do you mind showing your 6" speaker installs? I've been thinking about where to hide speakers so that the retrosound can be as incognito as possible. I want it to appear like an original worthless (to thieves) AM radio, and having a bunch of speakers showing kind of spoils the illusion.
Thanks!

Duane
