Seat Upolstry

Post by 67Number263 »

I need to order new vinyl for my bench seat and am not sure how much to order. Does anyone know how much to get?

Are you talking about a prefabricated seat or are you going to stitch the cover yourself ? Here is a prefabricated replacement cover i installed myself. Before i installed the new cover i repaired the broken springs, replaced the matting, foam and webbing.

That looks great, but I am buying the material and getting it done by a shop.

Wouldn't the upholstery shop know how much to order? I would think they might even get better deal on the materials?
I went to my upholstery shop, handed him my seat and pointed at a vinyl fabric in a book. 2 weeks later I swiped my credit card and left with a covered seat.

Easy way would be to trace original sections (bottom panels, seat side panel, etc) on any sort of paper you can find - tracing paper being ideal. This can be done while the seat is in the truck. Then cut the pieces out and lay them on a table with at least the width of the material - usually 58". Arrange them in the most efficient way to keep the yardage down. Look a the material and make sure there is no obvious upside vs downside vs sideway that would make placing the pieces precise. Then simply measure the length and this would then be amount of material needed. Unless it's really expensive, order a little extra. Will you be adding piping along the edges?

That looks like the kit I just ordered from LMC ($185). Bottom went on easy, had to return the back portion due to crappy stitching, still waiting a week later.

Ok everyone - I found the exact material I needed for my truck seat from SMS. The only question I have now is about the seat back. On the back side of the seat back was it open or did it have a cover on it of some type. I can't tell as my seat was well used. It looks to me that I should have a burlap material on the back of the seat back. Or should I have nothing? Anyone know? Thanks.

I dropped my seat off at the auto upholsterer and picked up my two-tone seat the next day. $200

Thanks everyone for your input. It's all been very helpful. Once I get the seat returned I'll post some pictures.
