Upholstery help

Post by gprust »

I am working on recovering the bench seat in my 69 F100. Not knowing any better, I tossed the old seat covers without removing the j channels from the bottom part. I ordered a new set off amazon that came from acme upholstery. It does not have a j channel on it, only the plastic tubing to attach hog rings to. There are no places to attach hog rings on the back and front of the lower part of my bench seat. I finally found a place that sells j channels and they will be coming in soon.

Are j channels standard on all 67-72 f100s or did a previous owner have a different seat installed? Second, how do I attach j channels to the upholstery without a sewing machine?

I recovered my seat and it sounds nothing like your frame and i know mine is the original in my 69. My new cover also had the plastic tubing which the hog rings worked well with. Sounds to me the seat has been changed.

It sure sounds like I have a different year model's seat. I wonder if I could use some metal coat hanger wire where the plastic tube is and try attaching the long plastic clip (which I've heard called a j channel, j clip, or j hook) to the wire with hog rings and clip it to the seat frame. Worth a shot at this point!

Thanks for the help in figuring it out.
