Converting cigarette lighter port

Post by Fall_of_Olympus »

Okay so.... not shockingly, my car charger doesn't work in my cigarette lighter port. I figured it wouldn't but I had to try lol. Anyone have any experience/advice on converting that thing to a power outlet? I definitely don't need it to be a lighter.

I picked up a two outlet + 2 USB device from amazon, cut the cigarette lighter end off, and wired it up to the fuse panel. It hangs out of sight under the dash. Easy access, but not ugly.

Something like this one: http://smile.amazon.com/adapter-cigaret ... ef=sr_1_61

Cheers,

I charge my cell ph with my lighter port in the 68. Do you have power to your cig port?

If the port itself is bad, you can get cheap replacements in the HELP section of the auto parts store. All you need is a switched 12v power source, or full on 12v if you want to charge your phone with the key off. In their accessories section, they have some cigarette lighter receptable - USB or double power outlet, etc.

if your lighter outlet works it will charge your phone or anything else that plugs into a 12v outlet. My old 72 is a wiring nightmare but oddly the old outlet & lighter works, gets hotter than damnit!
