seatbelt advice
I'm test-installing a 96 bench in the 72 this weekend. I'd like to have some seatbelts installed before driving it regularly again. I had a post saved before the site was just overhauled that had a link to a great website a member had recommended to me to purchase seatbelts. can folks please recommend sources for seatbelts?

Re: seatbelt advice
could either of you or anyone else who has bought kits from this site tell me which options you went with on the seat belts?
should i order any of the extra fasteners they offer to help my installation go easier?
I'm interested in 2 classic chrome lift retractable 3 point in a dark green with the 110inch with 20 inch fixed and the chrome latch option. also getting a retractable lap belt for the center seat. BTW i'm 6'1 170 so i'm not a big person.
i'm pretty sure there is a bolt location to mount the "standard mount" shoulder mounting piece. there's rubber plugs at the spots in my cab.
just trying to make sure all my ducks are in a row

Re: seatbelt advice
I ordered my 3-point retractable belts from seatbeltplanet.com. They are an Oklahoma-based company. Installed them this weekend. Easy install and they work pretty well. I used the lift-latch buckle. Don't like it as much for appearance, but probably easier to use as opposed to the push button. Right now the retractor and the other end of the retractor are using the same anchor point. I may move it forward and drill another hole to support it.

Re: seatbelt advice
I'm pretty sure I picked up my three point belts from JCWhitney a few years ago. Other than sourcing the original bolts for the shoulder, installation was pretty straightforward. I'm glad to have the additional protection.

Re: seatbelt advice
that is a fantastic thread. thanks!! i tossed my bench seat with the original bolts attached in the dumpster. should have broken out the snips and cut the belts out to save the bolts. oh well. going to try to match bolts to the original threads so i won't have to tap anything. got access to all types of hardware. it's all grade 5 though.sargentrs wrote:Robroy did an excellent write up on his http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =6&t=50489

Re: seatbelt advice
if you figure out what bolts you need, hit up the junkyard. They're pretty common, and cheap.
The original shoulder bolts are a different story...

Re: seatbelt advice
You could buy one of those hardware kits from one of the seat belt companies. My kit was pretty inexpensive - seems like the one I got at seatblelt planet was about $8.

Re: seatbelt advice
i just finished installing my belts. will probably have to uninstall and reinstall when the 96 i have goes in. used a 21/64 bit to drill out the shoulder belt bolt holes. mine were not tapped from the factory. then i used a t-handle tap and a 7/16 20 pitch tap that matched the bolts that came in the kit. didn't need a sleeve for the shoulder belt bolts. i was going to saw some 3/8 galv pipe that i bought and use them as sleeves but the kit had everything i needed and the sleeves were not needed.

Re: seatbelt advice
i drilled out the threaded holes in the frame of the bench seat. the brackets on the original bench line up with the holes. bolted them to the bottom of the new bench. tapped the female threads in the floor pan. tapped the original seat track bolts. slid the bench in the f100. my seatbelts are in the way! i may have to remove the center belt to make the bench work. i can't slide the bench back onto the bolt holes with that darn central belt re-tractor bolted in. so the bench is in the truck but not bolted in. i'll mess with it in the morning before i go to work. trying to get the seat and belts finished so i can drive my truck to world of wheels. i'll post pics for yall as soon as i get the seat and belts in order. going to need some adjusting on the belts.

Re: seatbelt advice
the best investment i have in this project is the bench at $40. i could not get the central belt to function with this bench seat which i'm not too concerned about since i'm working on a custom bench seat that will feature 3 storage compartments with two dodge dart seats and a ford center console folding seat and it will be elevated enough to accommodate any seatbelt setup no matter how bulky. I have to say after using these seatbelts and comparing them to stuff i could have pulled from the junk yard from other cars to adapt to mine this was a huge waste of money in my opinion. they are of poor quality. the plastic housings are not as durable as i'd expect considering the money i paid. the belt material seems thin and of poor quality in comparison to stuff at the junkyard. the retractor mechanism is not functioning at the level is should considering the money. takes multiple tugs to pull free. overall i give them 5 golden brown CRAP stars. if you can weather it do not buy the seatbelts from the company i purchased from. hopefully any other source will result in a better quality. and if you don't want to burn a hole in your pocket go to a junkyard. if i could do it over that is what i would do. Live and learn i suppose.
