T5 update after install

Post by windhamdw »

I put the T5 in my 71 f100 with a 302, I used the imbalance flywheel. I got a manual starter for a 71 f100 but when trying to start it's like the starter is not hitting the flywheel, sounds like the starter just spends. Anybody else done the swap and what starter are you using?

If the starter is just spinning and not engaging the flywheel you may have a problem with the starter not pushing the pinion gear out far enough to engage the flywheel. There's a solenoid on the starter that controls that movement.

Found the issue, I had to use a starter for 1992 mustang but I did have to rewire it because it's different then the stock one that comes in older trucks.

Update on the T5 swap if anyone needs the info.

It a 1971 F100 with an AOD going to a T5.

I got the stock clutch/Brake padels from ebay.

For the clutch i got MustangSteve Clutch Cable Quadrants CQ1 for Summit and welded to the top of the clutch pedal, i did move the Quadrant to the front of the pedals and weld it in see pic.

Also i did have to make a modification once the Quadrant was installed see pic, i did have to trim it a little more for clearance.

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/MGS-CQ1

For the clutch cable i did get a Firewall Adjuster from amazon that i did have to trim the side of it because of a bot you can see in one of the pics.

Also for the clutch cable this what i ordered because i have long tube headers. https://www.uprproducts.com/96-04-ford- ... tch-cable/

For the clutch this is what I from rock auto, LUK LFW451 Info One of our most popular parts
28.2 OZ. Imbalance Flywheel -157 Tooth; For 10" Clutch and the LUK 07042 RepSet®

For the stick shift it works perfect with a bench seat but the seat has to be all the way back which is perfect for me, the pic is with it in reverse gear. See pic

For the starter i did have to used one for like a 1992 Mustang but had to rewire for the starter to work, see pic

For the mounting part everything lined up perfect, the Used the same trans mount and did not have to drill any new holes and the same drive shaft work perfect.

If i remember any thing else i will post it up.

Nice Job! :woohoo:
I put an '84 5.0l converted to a boss w/ trw pop ups, 289 connecting rids, Australian heads and a b%a aluminum intake into my '68 and wanted the t5 but I can't ditch the 3 on tree. Always thought it was too hard to use reverse clutch arm and hated thought of hyd. throw out bearing. Glad to see some one get it done!
68 Ranger. 302 Clevor w/ 3 on tree, soon to have front disc brakes.
