now days they start the new model years around july august or maybe as late as september. i dont think it changed very much from then and now.

The '73s should have started in august with ser number Q00,001. '72s were built into early august as well with serial numbers up to at least P858xx. Different plants may have higher or lower numbers for the last of the '72s.
