Here's my latest little project: dash cap from LMC truck--easy install and looks fantastic when done!

Yeah, I bought the dash cover as well (from a different site than LMC, but same product). It is the easiest and cheapest way to go and still looks great. Less than half the price and will probably last longer. Looks good!

I bought mine from LMC, fits like a glove and looks like a brand new dash cover. I took my dash off to install it and I also used about 10 times as much silicone as they sent, I made sure it was never coming off.

That looks good! Could you give us a picture of it from the front to see how it fits there?

This is not the OP's truck but this is a LMC dash cover on my truck. This is an overall front view but if you could see it in person there is nowhere that you can tell it's a cover, even around the defroster vents it is together so tight you can't tell the difference. The secret to make it fit so good is to throw away the instructions and the small tube of silicone they send and get a caulking gun and a big tube of silicone (in my case black) and cover it everywhere and then put them together. I used about 20 spring clamps to hold it together overnight before putting it back in.
The reason I say this is I put it on by the instructions and with the supplied small tube of silicone and it came loose when I was putting it back in, it won't come loose now.

Wow, that looks good. I'm impressed, I was wondering just how clean the install would look. Might go this route for mine as well, the price is not too bad and the install easy.

The go on right over the existing pad. You can use silicone or glue to attach it.

Hrmm... I don't have an existing one.. Just bare metal. Would that be a problem.

Yeah, they are made to fit over the existing pad. They would be too big for the bare metal because they need the thickness of the existing pad to fit flush. However, you could easily get an old cracked pad for next to nothing or even free probably. You could go to your local junkyard and pull an old pad off of a bumpside and as long as the pad is pretty much all there, it will work for you. Condition is not a concern as the cover will cover the entire pad, but you need an old pad for a base with which to glue the new cover to.

Do you have to remove the pad to install the cover? What about the defrost ducts, do you remove them to install the cover?

No, you do not have to remove the pad. The cover slides on right over the existing pad. I glued around the edges of my cover and some on the pad and then put the cover on to the old pad. I did not use the silicone it came with as I wanted a more solid attachment. I used a bunch of clamps and weights to hold the cover to the dash to keep it pressed down and in place until the glue set and dried. After that, the cover looks like it is stock and has been there all along. As for the defrost ducts, the holes in the cover line up with the defrost holes, so there is nothing you need to do in that area. You just leave your defrost ducts in the original pad.

I installed this in my 72 when I had it and then when I stripped the truck to salvage parts for my crew cab, I was able to take the entire dash pad out with the cover attached just as I would normally take out a dash pad. I have it in my garage and when the crew is done with paint, it will go right back in. It basically just becomes a brand new cover for your existing dash pad.

I was going to post a picture of what my cover looked like in my 72, but it appears that Photobucket is having a problem this morning and I cant even get the website to open. But you can see pictures of the dash in my 72 here: http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =6&t=59539 Just scroll down to the final pictures of my dash installed...
