I purchased both the 67 and 68-72 clutch rod floor hole grommets/seals from Dennis Carpenter, in hopes I could upgrade my original clutch rod hole seal in the floor somehow.
The factory 67 piece just pushes into the hole from the interior and has four bendy tabs that I guess you are supposed to bend out from underneath the truck to hold the seal in place. The 68-72 style seal is much flimsier but has a (very thin)metal plate with screw holes that looks like you are supposed to bolt down on top of the seal, sandwiching it to the floor from the interior.
Neither of the two make a very good seal against the floor of the truck, and it looks as if the 68-72 seal is for a smaller hole. It looks like the metal bracket isn't wide enough to have both screw holes catch floorboard metal if I were to try to bolt it down to my floor. The 67 seal seems too big for my floor hole and bows up on the edges when I try to make the bendy tabs go through the hole and the seal doesnt want to sit flush to the floor.
Has anyone come up with a good way to make a water tight seal to the floor for these grommets? I was thinking of maybe making my own bracket to clamp the larger 67 seal from the outside of the truck, underneath the floor, and also sealing the grommet to the floor with a thin layer of sealer. What do you think?
Is there a better way to seal the clutch rod floor hole?

Be aware of the hole location on the 67 is farther up on the floor pan because the linkages are different. If you use 72 cab with 67 linkage it will push the seal out because the rod is not centered in the seal opening.

Good to know, thanks. I have a 67 cab, clutch linkage and pedal assembly, so everything lines up there fine, I'm just trying to find a better seal than original, as mine wasn't sealing well in the first place and the replacements don't seem to do well either.

Is it leaking where the clutch rod hole is or where it ties into the floor? between it and the floor you might try some sealer that won't dry out like is used on windshields. These were pretty drafty trucks, but I'm in the south and welcome the breeze.

At the floor. I'm trying to seal all the water leak paths in the truck, to put carpet and a/c in. This truck has had plenty of places where water likes to come in and even more so when I'm driving in the rain. I have to seal the accelerator pedal hole and bracket again as well, as it leaks pretty bad.

I've never seen accel pedal leak. Could the wiper pivot be leaking? It is directly above these and are a common problem.

Yes, the accelerator pedal linkage was leaking at the firewall. The factory putty stuff had deteriorated and fallen apart.
